President’s Note

The 2020-2021 President of Junior League of Racine is Bethany Tangerstrom. Bethany found Junior League through a relative who spoke about all of the opportunities this organization provides for women in the community. She invited Bethany to come to a JLR meeting, and Bethany had so much fun that she kept coming back! This will be her sixth year in League, and she reflects fondly on her previous experience and focuses on the year ahead in a short interview.

Q: Tell us about your favorite memory of a project or event and why it is your favorite.
A: My favorite memory was my first year being active on the Fund Development Committee.  Our committee, including the chair, were fairly inexperienced, but we were driven to succeed. We created such strong bonds that year because we were all learning new skills together.  We held “Haven’t got a clue – A Craft Cocktail Tasting, Auction and Muder Mystery Event”.  The day of the event, our chair was sick so we all came together to pull off the event.  It went so well and we worked so well together no one could tell that we had any issues with the event. I was very proud of that experience!
Q: What are you most excited for this year?
A: I think the thing I am most excited about is the ability and potential our League has to find creative ways to respond to community challenges.
Q: What do you see as the role of JLR in the greater Racine community?
A: I see League as an organization that helps with advancement of all women in the greater Racine community while creating numerous opportunities to volunteer and help so that the greater Racine community can become stronger and healthier.
Q: Why do you think other women should join JLR?
A: Everyone joins League for different reasons.  For me, it was purely to socialize and get out of the house. However, this has changed as I have been in League.  League has given me great friendships, new skills, and opportunities to connect with my community. That’s one of the great things about League –  It can change to fit what you need in your life as your life changes.
